Poem for Being Nicer to Yourself and Also Thinking Less

hug the people you care about

be a nice person

just kidding

sometimes on a bad night

if you listen

you can catch yourself in the moment of darkness

and if you grab it

you have to calm it down

tell the tail of your caughtself

you love it

and it is safe

accept what you’ve assumed is the thing

that is your problem

as a meaningless axiom

don’t reject my bad poetry

or my bad life

don’t fight your own problems

don’t think too hard, replace your hard thinking

with a hug of intuition

and warm feelings, or any kind of feelings

because all the things

that hurt you now

are things you can actually cope with

no problem

good night

i don’t wish anyone anything bad

i want to do good in the world

but really i am just relaxed and know little

i accept you and also my darkness

i will accept your darkness too

About vurinstitute

Horatio Somersault is the Director and Regent Chancellor of the VUR Institute, a think tank involving some as-yet-unknown and slightly spooky manipulations of time and interdimensionality. In his spare time Somersault enjoys writing poems and fables. You can read his writings, as well as those of other VUR inhabitants, at vurinstitute.wordpress.com. Though he lives a wanderer's life, his hometown is a domed biome inside the water core of the moon Europa. You can follow his experiences adapting to the customs of the early 21st century on his Twitter @VURdirector and can email him at vurinstitute at gmail dot com.
